HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Delta Police Pipe Band was formed in 1971 by members of the Delta Police Department in the Municipality of Delta, a suburb of Vancouver, Canada. In honor of the co-founder of the Delta Police Pipe Band, the late Chief Constable Mervyn W. Smith, the Band wears the predominantly green and blue Ancient Smith Tartan, along with full highland dress with feather bonnets.
THE DELTA POLICE PIPE BAND TODAY
The Band consists of 30 pipers and 20 drummers and is currently under the direction of Pipe Major Steve Ramsden and Drum Major Ron McMillan. The Delta Police Pipe Band is world renowned for their crowd pleasing musical presentations and are ambassadors for the Delta Police Department and the Municipality of Delta. They have performed at numerous National and International events.
The band recently shared the stage with Sir Paul McCartney and joined him to perform Mull of Kintyre in front of 50,000 fans at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, BC. The band toured Germany in March of 2013 with performances in Flensburg, Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, Leipzig and Cottbus.
Some of the more memorable events the Band have been associated with were the 1983 performance for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, at Vancouver, British Columbia and the 1986 opening of the Vancouver World Exposition by Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

The band has performed with many diverse performers including Irish Tenor Anthony Kearns as well as The Chieftains. The band has played around the world at a variety of events including Davis Cup Tennis and Memorial Cup Ice Hockey and the band is very proud to have performed at many events honoring military veterans, fallen police officers, and Military/Police award recipients.
